Brothers Water

Brothers Water in the English Lake District is the smallest of the English Lakes in Cumbria's National Park! Brothers Water is in the Hartsop valley in the eastern region of the English Lake District in the county of Cumbria. Once called Broad Water, The name Broad Water was changed to Brothers Water in the 19th century after two brothers drowned here.

Brothers Water it lies at the northern end of Kirkstone Pass, affording picturesque views on the descent towards Patterdale.

This area of the Lake District is an ideal place for Camping, Walking, Rambling, Climbing, Fishing and much more, food and refreshment can be found at the Brothers Water Inn on the final descent of Kirkstone Pass.

On the western side of Brothers Water is Hartsop Hall. The 16th century building passed to Sir John Lowther in the 17th century. The village of Hartsop lies near the northeast corner of the lake.

Brothers Water provides a picturesque view, on the descent to Patterdale. Situated approx two miles from the Ullswater. Brothers Water may be classified in either of two ways: as one of the Lake District's smallest lakes or one of its largest tarns.

Brothers water is located just off the A592 at the nothern foot of the Kirkstone Pass, the road also follows the northern/western bank of Ullswater. It passes through Glenridding, Patterdale and Windermere.

Around Brothers Water

The lake's catchment is moderate, it is home to Trout, Pike(to be confirmed) and harbours a rare species of fish called Schelly. Brotherswater and Ullswater are connected via Goldrill Beck a stream that twists and turns over two miles in length.
