Grasmere

Grasmere in the English Lake District, Grasmere is one of the smaller of the English Lakes in Cumbria's National Park! Grasmere Lake is just short of a mile in lenght and less that half a mile in width.

Grasmere it lies beside Grasmere village, and popular tourist destination, in the centre of the Lake District. It takes its name from the adjacent lake of Grasmere, and is renowned for its famous Poets of the Lakes . The poet William Wordsworth, lived in Grasmere for fourteen years, he is said to have described Grasmere as "the loveliest spot that man hath ever found".

The Grasmere area of the Lake District is an ideal place for Camping with numerous campsites within the area, Walking, Rambling, Climbing routes, Fishing and much more. Grasmere provides picturesque views,

A number of very good walks begin only minutes from the centre of Grasmere village, these including the ascents of Helm Crag or a longer route up to Fairfield. The village is also visited on the route of Alfred Wainwright's Coast to Coast Walk.

The A591 connects Grasmere northwards over Dunmail Raise to Keswick and southwards to Ambleside. Otherwise, Grasmere is surrounded by fells part of the Cumbria Mountain range. To the West is 'High Raise' and the lesser heights of 'Blea Rigg' and 'Silver How'. To the East, Grasmere is bordered by the western ridge of the 'Fairfield horseshoe'.

Grasmere is located north of Windermere's Ambleside and neighbours Rydal Water.
